The Home Birth of baby Eli in the bath

“Finding the words to sum up how invaluable Yvette was to me achieving my dream birth is an impossible task. From our first conversation I felt that she was someone I could trust to respect me, my family, and our wishes, in what is one of the most vulnerable, private and special moments in life.

I wanted a home birth, and for it to be as hands off and intervention-free as possible, and while the home birth team were wonderful, we would not have been left undisturbed as much as we were having had Yvette there.

She made sure that the lights were kept low, conversation was kept to a minimum and kept away from me, unless it was regarding a decision for me and my husband to make. She knew my birth plan inside and out as we had discussed every detail of what I did and did not want in various scenarios. Thanks to those discussions, disturbances were avoided and my husband and I were able to stay in the moment uninterrupted.

I barely even noticed that the midwives had arrived, up until I felt the urge to push and asked for them to come into the room. And then before I knew it, my beautiful baby boy was in my arms, born in the bath with my daughter asleep in the room next door. That was one of the most magical things - about an hour after he was born, my daughter woke up and joined us in bed for a cuddle to meet her little brother.

I was on the fence about hiring a doula, I didn’t know if I wanted another person present during birth, or if it was worth the money, but I can safely say that it is one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I am so glad I chose Yvette.
